Add a commission manually

Credit an affiliate for a sale affixo didn't track, or pay a bonus, prize or correction for an exact amount.

Updated October 20, 2026

Sometimes a sale happens that affixo couldn't track, or you want to reward an affiliate for something that isn't a sale. A manual commission covers both. Every manual commission runs through the same checks as a tracked one, and you see exactly what it will create before you save.

Where to start#

You can open the New commission dialog from three places:

  • Commissions: click Add manual commission at the top of the page. You pick the affiliate in the dialog. On an empty Commissions page, the button is in the empty state.
  • An affiliate's profile: click Actions and choose New commission, or open the Commissions tab and click Add commission. The affiliate is already filled in.
  • Referrals: after you add a referral with Add referral, click Add a sale to record what that customer bought, with the customer already filled in.

Tip

The Referrals page also has an Add commission item in each referral's menu. It's a shorter form that records a sale amount for that referral's affiliate, with the commission worked out by your campaign's rules.

Add the commission#

Open New commission

Click Add manual commission on the Commissions page, or New commission in an affiliate's Actions menu.

Pick the affiliate

Search for the affiliate who earned it. If you started from their profile, this step is skipped. Click Change to pick someone else.

Choose what you're adding

Under What are you adding?, pick one:

  • Sale commission records a sale. The commission is calculated from the campaign's reward scheme, and the customer is added to the affiliate's referrals.
  • Bonus or custom pays an exact amount, in your payout currency. It's approved immediately and recorded in the audit log.

Fill in the details

For a Sale commission:

  • Customer name and Customer email (optional).
  • Sale amount: the full sale value. The affiliate earns their campaign's cut of this, not this amount.
  • Sale date: blank means today. The sale counts toward that month.
  • Invoice or order ID (optional): stops the same sale being recorded twice.
  • Add note (optional): only your team sees it.

If the affiliate's campaign pays different rates by product or plan, a What did they buy? box asks for the Product and Billing (Monthly, Yearly or One-time), and shows the rate each choice pays. Answer it so the right rate applies.

For a Bonus or custom commission:

  • Commission amount: exactly what they earn.
  • Date: blank means today. It decides which month's payout it joins.
  • Reason: the affiliate sees this on their statement.

Check the quote and save

Read the line at the bottom of the dialog, then click Record sale or Add bonus.

The quote before you save#

For a sale, affixo does a dry run of the exact save you're about to make and shows the result, for example "Maya earns $60.00 (30%)". The part in brackets says which rate applied: the percentage or flat amount, plus "their own rate" if the affiliate has an override, the product name, or the plan type. Save stays disabled until the quote matches what you've typed.

Other things the quote can tell you:

  • No reward rule matches this sale, so it earns nothing. The campaign has no rate that covers it. If you save anyway, the sale is recorded on the affiliate's referrals with no commission.
  • Would be held for review. The commission would be created with the status Needs review instead of going straight to Pending, because one of your approval rules applies. It won't be paid until you approve it on the Commissions page. When affixo can name the reason, it follows, for example "over your auto-approval limit", "restricted traffic channel" or "affiliate not approved yet".
  • Invoice … is already recorded. That invoice or order ID is already in affixo.

For a bonus, the line simply shows the amount they'll earn.

Emailing the affiliate#

The Email … about it box (it shows the affiliate's first name, as in Email Maya about it) is ticked by default. The affiliate gets the commission email your program already sends, unless they turned those emails off. Untick it to add the commission quietly. If the box is greyed out, the Commission earned email is off for your program. You can turn it on in your event emails.

After you save#

The dialog confirms what was created and its status:

  • A sale's commission follows the normal path. If its month is still open, it joins the affiliate's payout once the month closes. A past month's commission goes out with their next payout.
  • A bonus is approved now and joins their payout the same way.
  • A held commission waits for your review before it counts.

Click Add another to add more for the same affiliate, or Done.

Questions

Use Sale commission when a real sale happened that affixo didn't track, such as a payment by bank transfer. The campaign's rules work out the commission, just like a tracked sale. Use Bonus or custom when you want to pay an exact amount that isn't tied to a sale, such as a contest prize or a correction.

Saving would create the commission with the status Needs review instead of Pending, because one of your approval rules applies, for example the amount is over your auto-approval limit. It won't be paid until you approve it on the Commissions page. When affixo can say why, the reason follows the words, like Would be held for review: over your auto-approval limit.

Not if you fill in Invoice or order ID. affixo refuses a second sale with the same ID and tells you before you save that the invoice is already recorded.

Yes, to any past day, but not into the future. The date decides which month the sale or bonus counts toward, and so which payout it joins. Leave it blank for today.

No. Bonuses can't go to an affiliate who is suspended, archived or has left your program. Restore an archived affiliate first.
