Move a referral to another affiliate

Hand a referred customer to a different affiliate, choose whether unpaid commissions go with them, and see exactly what moves before you confirm.

Updated October 20, 2026

Sometimes the wrong affiliate gets the credit: two partners worked the same deal, a customer clicked an old link, or someone switched affiliates. Moving a referral hands that customer to a different affiliate. You choose whether only future payments move, or unpaid history too, and the dialog shows you the money before you confirm.

Before you start#

  • The new affiliate must be active. Approve or reactivate them first.
  • Test affiliates and real ones never mix, so you can't move a referral between them.
  • You need permission to manage affiliates (Admin or Program manager).
  • A referral with no affiliate at all isn't moved. Use Edit on it and pick someone under Referred by instead.

Move a referral#

Find the referral

Go to Referrals and find the person. The search box matches the referred person, the affiliate and the campaign. Check the period filter if they're older.

Open Move to affiliate

Click the row's menu and choose Move to affiliate. You can also open the referral and click Move to another affiliate, or use the same button under Referred by in Edit referral.

Pick the new affiliate

The dialog Move to another affiliate tells you who they belong to today. Search under Find the new affiliate and pick someone.

Choose what moves

The dialog becomes Move to and the new affiliate's name. Pick one of the two options below and read the lines under each one. They're worked out from your real data.

Confirm

Click Move to and their name. The message afterwards confirms how many commissions went with them.

The two options#

From now on only. The customer's payments from now on earn the new affiliate commission. Everything the old affiliate has earned stays with them, paid or not. Use this when the switch is real going forward but past credit was fair.

Include history. Commissions on this customer that aren't paid yet move to the new affiliate too, at the amounts they were earned at. Future payments credit the new affiliate as well. Use this when the credit was wrong from the start.

Either way, the customer now belongs to the new affiliate. Anything from before the move that pointed at the old affiliate, like an earlier link click or their coupon code, no longer wins for this customer.

Reading the preview#

Before you confirm, the dialog shows:

  • What moves with Include history: the number of unpaid commissions and their total, for example "3 commissions ($60.00) not paid yet move to Maya".
  • What stays: paid commissions and their total. "That money has already gone out."
  • The clock line: any limit on how long a reward pays, like the first 12 months, keeps counting from their first payment.
  • Commissions held back: if a sale's sub-affiliate share was already paid to the old affiliate's recruiter, that sale's commission stays with the old affiliate.

What can stop a move#

| Message | What to do | |---|---| | Commissions are in a payout run that hasn't been paid yet | Take them out of that run, or pick From now on only. | | The new affiliate is blocked on a campaign | Unblock them on that campaign from their Links tab, or pick someone else. | | No email or Stripe customer ID on record | Edit the referral to add one, or use Include history if it's available. | | The customer is the new affiliate's own email | An affiliate can't be their own referral. | | Already credited to them through another referral | Nothing was moved. Check the other referral first. |

Note

Moved sales never count toward the new affiliate's milestone bonuses, and the old affiliate keeps any bonus they already earned. If the new affiliate has a recruiter, that recruiter's sub-affiliate share follows the moved commissions.

Questions

They always stay with the affiliate who was paid. That money has already gone out, so neither option moves it. The preview tells you how many paid commissions stay and their total.

No. Include history moves unpaid commissions at the exact amounts they were earned at. If anything would change an amount, nothing is moved. Future payments earn under the new affiliate's campaign rules.

No. Any limit on how long a reward pays keeps counting from the customer's first payment, in both options.

Either there are no unpaid commissions to move, or some of them are in a payout run that hasn't been paid yet. Remove them from that run first, then move the referral.

Future payments can only be matched by an email or a Stripe customer ID. If the referral has neither, affixo can't credit their later payments to anyone. Edit the referral to add one.

No. A move is bookkeeping, so no commission or referral emails go out to either affiliate. If you use webhooks, you get one commission.reassigned event per commission that changed hands.
