Track sales from promo codes
Give an affiliate their own discount code so sales that use it are credited to them, even when the buyer never clicks a link.
Promo codes are the one kind of tracking that doesn't depend on the buyer's browser. You give an affiliate a discount code, their audience uses it at checkout, and affixo credits the sale to that affiliate. No link, no script on the checkout page, nothing for an ad blocker to block.
Before you start#
- Connect Stripe. The code is created in your Stripe account.
- You need the Admin role to create codes.
- The affiliate should belong to a campaign. If affixo can't work out which campaign a code belongs to, it warns you: sales with the code are still credited, but earn no commission until the affiliate is in a campaign.
- Your Stripe checkout must let customers enter a promotion code. That's a setting on your Stripe Checkout, Payment Link or pricing table, not in affixo.
Create a code for an affiliate#
Open the affiliate
Go to Affiliates and open the affiliate.
Open the Promos tab
Click the Promos tab. If the affiliate has no codes yet, you'll see No promo codes.
Create the code
Click New promo code. Enter the Code (for example SAVE20), choose Percentage or
Flat ($) under Type, enter the Percent off or Amount off, and click Create.
Share it
Send the code to your affiliate. When a customer uses it at checkout, the sale is credited to them.
You'll get Promo code created when it's live. affixo creates the coupon and the promotion code in your Stripe account for you, so you don't need to set anything up in Stripe first.
See how a code is doing#
The Promos tab lists each code with Customer gets, Status, Times used and Revenue. Sales made with a code show Coupon code as the attribution in ReportsConversions.
Note
Codes created on the Promos tab discount the customer's first payment only.
When codes and links disagree#
If someone clicked one affiliate's link and then typed a different affiliate's code, the code wins by default. affixo checks attribution methods in order and stops at the first match, and Coupon sits above Cookie / visitor. To change that, reorder the list in Resolution precedence under SettingsProgramAttribution & approvals and click Save changes.

Questions
No. A sale that uses the code is credited to the code's affiliate even if the buyer never clicked a link. That makes codes a good fit for podcasts, videos and anywhere a link is awkward.
By default the code wins, because Coupon comes before Cookie / visitor in the attribution order. You can change the order under Settings, Program, Attribution & approvals, in Resolution precedence.
Yes. affixo creates the code in your connected Stripe account, and reads it back from the Stripe payment to credit the affiliate.
Codes created from the Promos tab discount the first payment only. The affiliate still earns on renewals if your campaign pays recurring commission, because renewals stay with the affiliate who earned the first payment.
