Test your tracking
Run the guided click, referral and sale test on your own site, read each result, and know for sure your program is live.
Installing the snippet proves affixo can see your site. Testing proves the whole chain works: an affiliate's click lands, a signup is tied to it, and a sale turns into a commission. Run this once after you install, and again any time you change your site, checkout or Stripe setup.
Before you start#
- Install the tracking script on your live site and publish it.
- Have at least one campaign. The Site to test list is built from the addresses your campaigns' links point to. With no campaign, the tester shows Set up a campaign instead.
- Allow popups for the affixo dashboard. The click test opens your site in a small window.
- Connect Stripe if you take payments through it. The Sale step works differently with and without it.
Where to find the test#
There are two ways in, and both run the same test:
- SettingsConnectTracking & install, then open Test your install. This is the one to bookmark.
- During setup, Get started in the sidebar, then Run the test on the Verify your website connection step. It opens the same check inside the setup steps as Check your connection.
The test has three checks on the left (Click, Referral, Sale) and the action for the selected check on the right. You run them in order, and each one opens when the one above it passes.
Run the test#
Pick the site to test
Choose your domain in Site to test.
Click: run the click test
Click Run click test. affixo opens your site with a test referral link and waits up to 25 seconds for the click to arrive. There's nothing to do in the window. When it passes you'll see Click recorded on this site.
Alongside it, affixo also reads your page source and tells you Snippet detected on the page or that it couldn't see it. If you load the snippet through Google Tag Manager, it won't appear in the source. That's fine: the live click check is the one that counts.
Referral: sign up with a test email
Click Open to load your site through your test link. Sign up on your site with any test email, come back, and click I signed up, check now. When it passes you'll see A signup was tracked as a lead.
This step needs the signup line on the page people see after signing up (see Install the tracking script). No signup flow on your site? Click Can't right now? Simulate it.
Sale: run a sale
With Stripe connected, click Run safe test sale. affixo runs a sample sale through a separate test campaign and computes a test commission. It never counts toward payouts.
Without Stripe, enter the path of your order confirmation page (it starts as /thank-you),
click Open, complete a test purchase there, then click I bought, check now. You can also
click Simulate it.
When it passes you'll see A sale was tracked and a commission computed.
When the last check turns green, affixo shows Tracking checks complete. Review your campaign and product choices before launch.
What each result means#
Each check on the left shows one of these:
| Status | What it means | |---|---| | Your turn or Ready | Unlocked and waiting for you to run it. | | Locked | Finish the check above it first. | | Verified | It worked. affixo recorded the click, signup or sale. | | Needs attention | Nothing arrived in time. The right side shows the most likely cause and how to fix it. |
When a check fails, affixo names one likely cause:
- Click: "No click was recorded." The snippet usually isn't on that page yet, or the change isn't published.
- Referral: "No signup arrived." The signup line usually isn't running on your thank-you page.
- Sale: the sale couldn't be verified. Retry the sample sale, or for a real purchase, wait a moment and check your website changes are published.
Under the cause you'll find the exact code for that step, a Copy AI fix prompt button written for that failure, and More things to check. That list is worth reading: ad blockers and Brave shields can block the test, so turn them off, use a fresh email each time, and keep the referral code in the address bar through signup. Click Try again when you've fixed it.
Note
Results are remembered per site in your browser, so a teammate on another computer may see a blank tester. The status line at the top of Tracking & install and the Getting started checklist read from your account, so they're the same for everyone.
How you know it's live#
You're ready to invite affiliates when all of these are true:
- The top of SettingsConnectTracking & install says Tracking installed, with your real domain in last hit … from.
- On Get started, Verify your website connection is ticked. It ticks the first time a conversion is recorded and stays ticked, even if you later delete test data.
- In the setup steps, the Connect your website panel reads Your program is live and Tracking works., with Snippet found, Stripe connected and Test a referral link all checked.
Check your real checkout too#
The safe test sale proves affixo can turn a sale into a commission. It doesn't prove your own checkout passes the referral along. To check that:
- On the Referral step, click Open. Your site opens through your test link, which ends in
_sa_test=1. That marks your browser as a tester for the next 30 minutes, so the signup or sale you make next is recorded as test data. - In that window, go through your normal checkout. With Stripe, use Stripe's test mode if your checkout supports it. Payments made in Stripe test mode are recorded as test data and never paid.
- Open ReportsConversions, make sure Hide test data is off, and look for the sale. The Attribution and Match columns tell you how it was credited. A sale with no affiliate, or No affiliate matched, means the checkout isn't carrying the referral. See Make sure Stripe sales are credited.
Test without touching your site#
On Referrals, Send a test referral records a test sale or signup for a sample affiliate, Affixo sample (test), who earns 25% of the test amount. It shows you what a referral and a commission look like in your dashboard, without any traffic. It doesn't check your website, so use it alongside the test above, not instead of it.

Questions
No. Everything the tester records is marked as test data. It shows with a Test badge, stays out of your totals and payouts, and never sends an email to anyone.
So it can't touch real money. It proves a sale travels all the way through affixo and produces a commission. It doesn't check your own campaign's reward or which products you excluded, so review those in your campaign before you launch.
Click Can't right now? Simulate it. affixo records a sample signup so you can move on to the Sale step. The checks run in order, so Sale stays locked until Referral passes.
The click test opens your site in a small window. Allow popups for the affixo dashboard in your browser, then click Run click test again.
Yes. Results are saved per site in your browser. Click Reset checks under Site to test to start over, or Run again on the Click step.
You don't have to, since test rows never affect totals or payouts. To hide them, tick Hide test on Referrals or switch on Hide test data in Reports. Delete test referrals on the Referrals page removes the ones you sent with Send a test referral.
