Tracking questions

How long a click counts, who gets credit, refunds, renewals, ad blockers and old links.

Updated October 20, 2026

The questions that come up once the tracking script is live. For setup, start with Install the tracking script.

How long after a click does a sale still count?#

60 days by default. Each campaign has its own Cookie window, set in the campaign editor under Link and tracking. When you create a campaign you can pick 30, 60 or 90 days, or enter your own.

If two affiliates sent the same person, who gets credit?#

By default, whoever sent them last. Each campaign has a When two affiliates sent the same person setting where you can switch to First click (whoever introduced them) instead of Last click.

Do renewals earn commission?#

Yes, if your campaign's commission rule is recurring. Renewals on an existing referral keep paying. For Stripe subscriptions, the visitor ID needs to reach the subscription so renewals are matched. See Make sure Stripe sales are credited.

What happens when a customer gets a refund or a chargeback?#

The matching commission is reversed automatically, and a partial refund reduces it. A dispute reverses it too, and winning the dispute restores it. If you'd already paid the commission, the amount is recorded as owed and taken off that affiliate's next payout. Fully refunded and charged-back sales also stop counting toward your plan's revenue.

Do ad blockers stop tracking?#

Some ad blockers can block the tracking request in a visitor's browser, so that click isn't recorded. Promo codes tied to an affiliate are credited from the Stripe sale itself, which makes them a good backup. See Track sales from promo codes.

Yes, as long as the affiliate's code came over in the import. The script reads ref, sa_ref, fp_ref, fpr, am_id, via, deal, _from, _by and _go, plus old FirstPromoter, Rewardful and Tolt referral cookies. See Keep your old affiliate links working.

Does the affiliate's Promoter Page track visits?#

No. Promoter Pages (called Partner pages in your dashboard) don't record the visit or set a cookie. Tracking starts when the visitor clicks the page's main button, which carries the affiliate's referral link.

How do I check tracking works?#

Go to SettingsConnectTracking & install and use Test your install. It sends a test referral through your site from click to sale. You can also send a test referral from Referrals. See Test your tracking.
