Chargeback

A chargeback is a forced reversal of a payment initiated by the customer's bank or card issuer, typically after a dispute, returning the funds to the customer.

For affiliate programs, a chargeback means the merchant lost the revenue from a sale — so any commission paid on that sale should be clawed back. High chargeback rates on an affiliate's referrals can also be a fraud signal.

Handling chargebacks automatically keeps commission liabilities aligned with revenue the business actually retained.
