Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based channel where a business pays external partners (affiliates) a commission for each sale, signup or action they drive through their own trackable links or codes.

The business supplies affiliates with unique links or coupon codes, tracks the conversions attributed to each partner, and pays a commission — typically a percentage of revenue or a flat amount per action. Because affiliates are only paid when they produce a result, the channel is low-risk relative to fixed-cost advertising.

For subscription businesses, affiliate marketing often pays recurring commissions tied to the lifetime of the customer the affiliate referred, rather than a single one-time payment.
